The St. Peter’s School redevelopment in South Croydon transforms an outdated facility into a modern, inspiring learning environment. Key to the redevelopment was the integration of a new, sustainable building with the retained elements of the original school. The design incorporates flexible teaching spaces, improved accessibility, and multipurpose areas for both school and community use.

The structural design played a critical role in balancing the preservation of existing elements with the addition of new facilities. A lightweight steel frame was used for the new sections to minimise load on existing foundations, while careful detailing ensured seamless connections between old and new. The project also embraced sustainability, incorporating renewable energy systems and efficient insulation to reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

By combining architectural innovation with practical engineering solutions, the St. Peter’s School redevelopment exemplifies how thoughtful design can rejuvenate educational facilities, creating spaces that serve both students and the wider community.
