Period & Conservation
Since the practice began and throughout the careers of the majority of our staff, period & conservation projects have been an important part of our workload. A good understanding of historical construction methods paired with a sound knowledge of modern architecture leads to superb results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
We have worked on hundreds of period properties throughout the country from pre- Georgian to Victorian with a number of these Grade I, Grade II* or Grade II listed. We have undertaken conservation projects ranging from Cotswold stone farm buildings to timber framed barns and are familiar with traditional timber, masonry and stone construction including defects and repair methods.
Whilst dealing with projects of historical significance, the ability to understand a building and appraise its composition without intrusive investigations is a real advantage. For conservation projects this often requires an innovative and sympathetic approach to the existing elements. This, together with our extensive historical knowledge of buildings and construction methods, makes us ideally suited to period & conservation work.
